Once I calibrated to my new identity as a Mom I was evermore drawn to create art. This was sometimes done in the kitchen sink while my husband took our son out for an hour, or on the floor in our bathroom during his naps. When we moved to the Bay Area for what would be a year, I had a lot more space to create art, and in turn a lot more art was created.

This series channels the energy of my youth in high school and college. It is painted from memories, experiences, and songs. The vibrant colors and bold marks represent my excitement to paint, just as a young adult is bubbling over with excitement for a summer of wild and fun experiences.

initiation

This series was my first in my new California space. I was experimenting and fervently moving to create.

Note from journal: I hope this image (of my process) serves as inspiration to anyone that thinks they might want to create art. Once I finally let go of my internal barriers, road blocks, doubts, I felt so free to create. Prior to this spot in my garage, I took over my bathroom in my small apartment. Find a space, no matter how small and start. Don’t left fear of messing up hold you back. There are some marks on these works I am not fond of, through the process I covered them with other layers until a harmonious composition was realized; or the paper gets tossed. Go for it! No work is perfect, no person is perfect, create from a place of joy and you will succeed.
